The two guest speakers at the Classic Dirt Bike Show’s Saturday evening dinner are Doug Lampkin and John Banks.

The Lampkin dynasty is known the world over with Arthur, Sid and Martin each achieving the pinnacles of motorcycle sport in the Sixties and Seventies. But what Martin’s charismatic son Dougie has achieved even exceeds that. He dominated the world trials series from 1997 to 2003 and added the world indoor series for good measure in each of the same years. Add to that multiple successes since in the Scott and Scottish Six Days trials – both of which he won this year at the ripe old age of 42 – and you get a measure of the man. Doug will talk about his exploits of riding the TT course on the back wheel, of Goodwood, and the tricks of the trade he picked up from his iconic father – the never to be forgotten ‘Mart’. Yorkshireman Doug is both funny and forthright when regaling his tales – don’t miss it!

John Banks is the man who scored most points in the 1968 World Motocross Championship but didn’t become world champion! In those days only the best seven out of 13 rounds counted towards the title and when those scores were calculated, the East Anglian had scored just one point less than the East German, triple world champion Paul Friedrichs. You’ll hear of the BSA man’s relationship with the champion and why John now thinks he lost the world crown. Hear how he won nine of the 10 races to become British champion in 1969 and his reflections on the BBC TV series that he won twice.

The disappointment of not lifting the world title weighed heavily on Big John. Motorcycling’s correspondent of the day Jack Burnicle will explore the mighty man’s mind in his very own masterful way and give his own thoughts on the scene he personally witnessed on the unforgiving tracks of 1960s Europe.
